The Origins of Webb Corbett

Webb Corbett was founded in 1897 in Stourbridge, England — a town renowned for producing some of the finest glass in the world since the 17th century (Stourbridge Glass Museum). The company emerged from a collaboration between Thomas Webb & Sons, celebrated for their high-quality glass, and Thomas Corbett, a talented glassmaker with a reputation for innovation.

Together, they produced crystal that was instantly recognisable for its brilliance, weight, and intricate cutting. By the early 20th century, the company was exporting to international markets, winning admiration for its refinement and quality.

Signature Styles & Patterns

Over the decades, Webb Corbett developed a wide range of patterns, each showcasing meticulous craftsmanship and the brand’s distinctive style. Popular designs include Glengarry, Coronation, and Prince Regent — each reflecting a different era’s aesthetic preferences.

The Prince Regent pattern, for example, is celebrated for its bold cuts, sparkling clarity, and balanced proportions, making it a striking choice for entertaining. Our current set of six Prince Regent on the rocks glasses perfectly captures this elegance, combining practicality with heritage appeal.

Royal Doulton Acquisition and Legacy

In 1969, Webb Corbett became part of Royal Doulton, one of Britain’s most famous tableware companies (Royal Doulton Heritage). While the company's name eventually gave way to “Royal Doulton Crystal,” the production methods and commitment to quality largely remained unchanged for years after the acquisition.

Today, the Webb Corbett name is no longer used in modern production, which makes vintage pieces even more collectible. The original marks — often an acid-etched “Webb Corbett” — are now seen as a hallmark of authenticity for collectors.

Collecting Webb Corbett Today

For collectors, Webb Corbett represents both beauty and value. Each piece offers:

  • Clarity — achieved through the use of fine lead crystal.
  • Precision cutting — patterns that catch the light beautifully.
  • Timeless design — suitable for both traditional and modern settings.

When assessing value, condition plays a significant role. Minor wear may be expected in vintage pieces, but chips, cracks, or clouding can lower desirability. Rare patterns or large matching sets, such as a full collection of Prince Regent glasses, often command higher prices.

Caring for Your Webb Corbett Pieces

To keep Webb Corbett crystal looking its best:

  • Hand wash only with mild detergent and warm water.
  • Avoid dishwashers, as high temperatures and detergents can cause dulling.
  • Store carefully — ideally with soft padding between items to prevent chips.

By following these steps, your pieces can maintain their clarity and brilliance for decades to come.

  • Serve cocktails in a vintage Prince Regent glass for an elevated experience.
  • Use small bowls or vases for fresh flowers or sweets.
  • Create a mixed table setting, pairing crystal with vintage china for a layered look.
