A boxed Eetrite Fleur serving spoon, 24 carat gold plated, from the South African gift cutlery of the late 1960s and 1970s. The handle is worked with an embossed floral trellis and finishes in that distinctive flared, almost diamond-shaped tip with a cluster of raised blossoms. The bowl is generous and slightly organic — made for soft cake, trifle, fruit salad or pudding rather than a firm slice.

These were wedding and hostess gifts: kept in the box, brought out for Sunday tea. The original gold-and-cream geometric box and bilingual presentation card are still with it, which is half the charm.

Dimensions

- Length: 20.7 cm

Condition

- Very Good — Sound and complete in its original box, with strong gold on the face of the spoon and typical plate wear on the reverse of the bowl.

Structure
- The spoon is straight and undistorted.
- Bowl and handle join cleanly.
- No bends, cracks, splits or repairs.

Gold plating — front
- The face of the bowl and the top of the handle present a warm 24ct gold.
- Reflections are bright.
- The plating is thinning a bit.
- The Fleur floral-trellis engraving and the clustered terminal remain crisp and well defined.

Gold plating — reverse
- The underside of the bowl is the weakest area.
- It shows uneven reflection, surface scratching and thinning of the plate — consistent with use or long contact in the box. - The handle reverse still carries a readable stamp: EETRITE 24 CARAT GOLD PLATED FLEUR.

Edges and bowl lip
- The bowl outline is intact, with no nicks or flattening.
- Light handling marks only.

Box and presentation card
- Original gold-and-cream geometric box and bilingual sleeve (presenting / bekendstelling van) are present.
- Light storage wear to the box is expected and does not affect the spoon.
- The original Eetrite sticker is not present on the box.

Additional Information

1. Design & Features
- Fleur is Eetrite’s floral-trellis pattern: a slender handle, embossed vine-and-blossom work along the shaft, and a squared floral terminal.
- This piece is the serving / pastry spoon from that range — the same family as the Fleur cake forks.

2. About the Maker
- Eetrite was a familiar South African tableware name through the mid-century decades, known for boxed gold-plated cake forks, teaspoons, sugar spoons and serving pieces.
- Fleur sat among their more decorative gift patterns, sold for formal tea tables rather than everyday stainless.

3. Uses & Versatility
- Lovely as a pudding or pastry spoon, or simply as a boxed hostess gift.
- It sits beautifully with blue-and-white porcelain and creamware.

4. Care Instructions
- Hand wash only and dry at once.
- Do not put gold plate in the dishwasher or use abrasive cleaners.
- Soft cloth only.
