Special Characteristics
Special Characteristics
1. Design & Features
- The Indies pattern, introduced in the 1970s, reflects Johnson Bros’ mastery of transferware design—its dense floral clusters and stylised vines evoke both colonial and chinoiserie influences.
- The ironstone body provides durability, while the blue underglaze retains its vibrancy even after decades.
- The scalloped edge gives the platter an elegant silhouette, complemented by a finely detailed border that frames the central floral medallion.
2. Craftsmanship
- Made in England from Johnson Bros’ signature ironstone, known for its chip-resistant strength and lasting sheen.
- The piece bears the Indies backstamp with the “Dishwasher and Microwave Safe” mark—an indication of later 20th-century production while preserving the traditional artistry of the earlier patterns.
3. Uses & Versatility
- Perfect for serving sides, desserts, or hors d’oeuvres, this 31cm platter also makes a striking wall display or layering piece on a blue-and-white tablescape.
- Pairs beautifully with other Indies dinnerware and with complementary English transferware pieces.
