A mid-century Sheffield cake and pie server, made by Lewis, Rose & Co Ltd and still sitting in its original gold presentation box. The blade is marked Larko Stainless and stamped for its intended use: a double-edged cake and pie server, meant to cut a slice and lift it in one movement.
Lewis Rose were known for cased cutlery and gift goods; this is exactly the sort of boxed slice that left Sheffield as a wedding, housewarming or Christmas present in the 1950s and 1960s.

Very Good — Sound and complete in its original box, with honest use-wear on the blade that is clearly visible but does not affect structure or function.

- Blade and handle aligned; no bends, cracks or looseness visible at the shoulder.
- The pointed tip sits correctly in the velvet cut-out.
- Functionally ready for use.
Blade / Surface
- Mirror-polished stainless face with the original stamped inscription (Double-Edged Cake & Pie Server, Larko Stainless, Lewis Rose & Co Ltd, Sheffield, England).
- Fine to moderate swirl marks and linear scratches are present across the blade, most noticeable in raking light. These are consistent with washing, drying and storage against the box.
- No rust, pitting or chips to the cutting edge.
- Serrations along the long edge are intact.
Handle / Decoration
- Traditional fluted handle with floral scrollwork and shell terminal.
- No obvious dents, flattened relief or distortion.
Box / Exterior
- Original long presentation box with textured gold paper covering.
- Form is complete; lid still pairs with the base.
- Paper covering of this type commonly shows light scuffing and softening at corners and lid edges.
- No tears or crushed panels visible.

- Burgundy velvet lining is present and still holding the server.
- The shaped cut-out at the blade tip remains useful.

2. Craftsmanship
- Made in Sheffield during the firm’s independent years, before the 1969 Spear & Jackson takeover.
- Lewis Rose specialised in table cutlery and boxed gift ware; Larko was their stainless mark.
3. About the Maker
- Lewis, Rose & Co Ltd was registered in Sheffield in 1922. Under Isidore Lewis and sales partner David Brown they produced electroplate, flatware, hotel ware and cased goods from Debesco Works.
- From the 1950s they also used the revived Ashberry name for export.
- The company was sold in 1969.

- Cake, tart, pie, quiche and pavlova.
- Equally happy on a dessert table.
5. Care Instructions
- Hand wash and dry immediately.
- Avoid the dishwasher if you wish to keep the polish even.
- A non-abrasive stainless polish will quiet the finer scratches if desired.
- Store in the box, dry and out of strong sunlight so the gold covering and velvet lining last.
