Vessels Profile: Both the creamer and the covered sugar bowl exhibit rich, unfaded transfer colours and immaculate, thick gold stippling along the ornate handles and rims.
Tray Surface: The central face of the oval tray is beautifully clean, retaining a bright glaze free from heavy utensil scratches or surface rub. There is only a tiny bit of gold loss on the one side. A small dot.
Backstamp Verification: The underside factory marks display the authentic vintage English backstamp: “Old Country Roses / ROYAL ALBERT ® / BONE CHINA / ENGLAND / © 1962 ROYAL ALBERT LTD”. The unmarred crests confirm all three components are first-quality pieces manufactured in Stoke-on-Trent between 1974 and 1993.
Special Characteristics
Special Characteristics
1. Design & Features
- The Avon Silhouette: Characterised by structured, vertical column fluting that gracefully tapers toward the base, offering a sophisticated, stately profile.
- Ornate Scroll Handles: Both the creamer and the sugar bowl feature elaborate, multi-curved rococo style scroll handles with detailed thumb rests, heavily accented in gold.
- Covered Design: The sugar bowl includes its original, matching porcelain lid topped with an elegant, gilded finial.
- Twin-Handled Serving Tray: The oval tray features closed, moulded handles at each end, perfectly proportioned to catch and display the cream and sugar vessels seamlessly together.
2. Craftsmanship
- Hand-Sponged Gilding: Rims and handles feature hand-applied 22-carat gold stippling, giving the borders a soft, shimmering, textured finish that blends beautifully with the floral transfers.
- First-Quality English Manufacture: Fired and crafted at the historic St. Mary's Works in Stoke-on-Trent, England. Each piece features a completely smooth factory mark on the base, certifying the set passed strict inspection as a premier grade collection.
- Expertly Fired Glaze: The bone china boasts a high-gloss, pristine white lustre that highlights the intricate fluting of the Avon moulds.
3. Uses & Versatility
- The Statement Tea Service: Serves as a complete, visually striking centrepiece for hosting formal afternoon tea.
- Display: An exceptional styling set for vintage cabinets, sideboards, or kitchen dressers, where the unique handles and lid finial provide distinct visual interest.
- The Ultimate Heirloom Gift: Because this set was thoughtfully compiled with the unique Avon shape and include the matching tray, it makes a special gift for dedicated heritage ceramic collectors.
4. Care Instructions
To protect the delicate gold stippling and vibrant floral finishes:
- Hand Wash Only: Wash gently by hand in warm, soapy water using a soft, non-abrasive sponge.
- Avoid Dishwashers: High temperatures and harsh chemical detergents will strip the 22-carat gold detailing and dull the glaze over time.
- Do Not Microwave: The heavy genuine gold detailing makes all components entirely unsafe for microwave use.
