A beautiful vintage Delft blue transfer-printed tile, part of the celebrated "Museum Series" by Plateelbakkerij Schoonhoven. This piece captures the lively spirit of the Dutch Golden Age, reproducing the 1623 masterpiece "Two Boys Singing" by Frans Hals.

The scene features two young lads—one cradling a lute, the other singing along—rendered in the classic cobalt blue and white palette. Hals was a master of capturing fleeting, joyful moments, and this ceramic reproduction preserves that animated, melodic energy.

Dimensions

- Approx. 15 cm x 15 cm

Condition

- Excellent - This tile is in excellent vintage condition, especially considering its age and the delicate nature of ceramic glazes. It has been well-preserved, retaining its original lustre and structural integrity.

- The Face: The glazed surface is crisp, vibrant, and remarkably smooth. There are no cracks, heavy crazing, or significant scratches to the pictorial area. The cobalt blue transfer remains sharp with no fading.

- The Edges: The perimeter is neat and sharp. You may find the occasional "flea bite" (a tiny, pinhead-sized nick in the glaze) along the very outer rim, which is entirely characteristic of mid-century Dutch tiles and serves as a testament to their authentic, kilned origin.

- The Reverse: The unglazed back is clean and displays the original factory stamps and historical information clearly. There are some minor, superficial marks and small areas of surface wear to the clay (visible in the photos), which occur naturally over decades of storage or display.

- Structural Integrity: The tile is solid with no "ringing" or internal stress fractures. It is ready for immediate display on an easel or for permanent installation.

Additional Information

1. Design & Features
- This tile features a masterful transfer-print of Frans Hals' "Singing Lads," a piece originally painted in 1623.
- The composition is famously energetic, capturing the mid-song joy of two young boys.
- The rich, monochromatic indigo tones are synonymous with Delftware, creating a classic aesthetic that remains a staple of sophisticated interiors.
- The reverse of the tile is a storyteller in itself. It is fully marked with the "Museum Series" details, documenting the artist’s dates (1580–1660), the title of the work, and its home in the Kassel State Museums.

2. Craftsmanship
- Produced by Plateelbakkerij Schoonhoven, this tile represents the high standard of Dutch ceramic production from the mid-20th century.
- Schoonhoven is renowned for its crisp transfer-ware and durable glazes.
- The Glaze: A high-shine, milky white glaze that provides a clean backdrop for the deep blue ink.
- The Print: Notice the fine, hatched lines that mimic the texture of an engraving, allowing for subtle shading and depth in the boys' clothing and the lute.
- Authenticity: The back bears the crowned "PS" monogram and "Delft Holland," ensuring this is an authentic piece of Dutch heritage rather than a modern imitation.

3. Uses and Versatility
The square format makes this a highly adaptable piece for a modern home:
- As Functional Art: Use it as a decorative trivet for a teapot or a small vase of flowers.
- Wall Decor: It can be easily mounted to the wall with a plate hanger or adhesive disc to form part of a curated gallery wall.
- Integrated Design: For a more permanent feature, it can be tiled into a kitchen backsplash or a fireplace surround to provide a historical focal point.
- The Collector's Shelf: Displayed on a small brass easel, it serves as a tactile, three-dimensional alternative to traditional framed prints.
