A small fruit-form vase in a saturated apple green, the body almost spherical and the mouth cut into a crown of pointed sepals. A darker green zigzag sits in slight relief around the shoulder, catching the light where the glaze pools. It is the modern decorative reading of an old Chinese idea: the pomegranate vase, or shiliu ping, in which the calyx of the fruit becomes the opening.

Condition

- Very good - The vase is in very good condition.
- The glaze is glossy and even, with a small dark speck low on the body.
- The unglazed foot ring shows normal kiln grit and a couple of pinholes.
- No chips.
- There are two lines of crazing on the underside.
- The impressed base code is clear.

1. Design & Features
- Spherical body, short neck, and a mouth formed as a crown of sepals, darker at the tips.
- A moulded zigzag band in deeper green circles the shoulder.
- The foot ring is left unglazed, with a green-glazed recess in the base.

2. Craftsmanship
- Moulded ceramic, earthenware or stoneware, finished with a bright green glaze.
- The band and crown are part of the mould rather than later decoration.

3. About the mark
- The base is impressed with a factory code reading B, 1. and 9560/61.
- This is a mould or batch number, not a signature or reign mark. “61” may refer to 1961, but export codes often mix model numbers and dates, so the year is not certain.
- No country or maker stamp.

4. Uses & Versatility
- Best as a sculptural object on a console, shelf or table, alone or with other fruit forms and green glass.
- It will take a few short stems or dried flowers. Confirm it holds water before using it as everyday flower ware.

5. Care
- Dust with a soft cloth.
- Wash by hand in lukewarm water if needed.
- Avoid the dishwasher and sudden temperature changes.
- Take care with the sepal tips.
