A beautifully detailed vintage platter from Wood & Sons, featuring the much-loved “English Scenery” pattern in deep cobalt blue. The pastoral scene draws you in immediately. The intricate floral border adds another layer of charm, giving this piece its unmistakable English character.

This medium-sized platter is wonderfully versatile: decorative enough to display on a hutch or wall, yet practical for serving breads, pastries, or sides at the table. A classic for collectors of blue-and-white.

While this piece remains a beautiful example of classic English transferware, it carries several "beauty spots" earned over its history. Please review the details below:

Surface & Transfer: The blue transfer remains vibrant with excellent contrast. There is a visible iron spot (a small brown kiln mark) located in the lower-central part of the pastoral scene, as well as a few smaller pepper-like specks across the well.

Glaze & Wear: There is light surface scratching consistent with age and moderate use. The glaze retains a good shine but shows minor glaze pops and tiny inclusions from the original firing process.

Discolouration/Crazing: There are several small brown age spots (foxing) visible on both the front and the reverse side, particularly near the rim. These are typical for older earthenware and do not affect the structural integrity.

Structural Integrity: No chips, cracks, or professional repairs were detected upon inspection. The rim is smooth to the touch despite the minor aesthetic spotting.

Note to Buyers: This platter is a true vintage item. The minor imperfections mentioned above are common in mid-century Wood’s Ware and add to its authentic period character.
